Smartphone sales in Europe : Apple is losing ground, Samsung and Xiaomi are rising in power

As is the case each quarter, Canalys reveals his usual ranking of the sales of smartphones on the old continent. Despite a bleak context for the sales of smartphones in the world, the sector remains afloat in Europe because builders have sold as much as the same quarter last year. However, the cards have been redistributed, and it is Apple who is losing heavily on the ground, just like Huawei.

In the first place of the ranking, we find Samsung , which recorded a strong growth of +20% compared to the second quarter of 2018. This is not as much its Galaxy S10 that will have seduced on the old continent, but rather its mid-range Galaxy A. The south-Korean company has distributed 3.2 million Galaxy A50 (the best-selling smartphone in Europe this quarter, all manufacturers combined), 2.2 million Galaxy A40 and 1.8 million Galaxy A20e. In all, nearly 18.3 million units sold, allowing to Samsung’s position as the european leader with a 40.4% market share.

In the second place, we found Huawei with 18.8% of market share in Europe. Strong growth is foolish for several years, the chinese company has, it seems, suffered his disappointments with the u.s. government, and a fall of 16% compared to last year. Huawei has passed 8.5 million smartphones in Europe.

As to Apple, which falls in the third place, the firm recorded a heavy fall of -17% compared to last year, with a market share in Europe that switches to 14.1% In all, the manufacturer in california has passed 6.4 million iPhone, of which 1.8 million iPhone XR, its top-selling model on the old continent.

Finally, we find in the fourth place the brand Xiaomi, which, though it may pale next to the behemoth Samsung is the one recording the highest growth of all with +48%. Xiaomi sold approximately 4.3 million smartphones during the second quarter, now they take advantage of a better distribution in our region.
